About this cause

We are an organisation who give residential refuge to families fleeing Domestic Violence/Abuse. We also give outreach support, counselling and run awareness/empowerment programmes for those suffering the effects of abuse. We have eight families resident at any one time, and serve approx. a further 100 victims annually via our other services. The refuge was established in 1974, and it's services have grown to meet the ever increasing needs of victims of Domestic Violence/Abuse. We also run a specialist Child Therapy service for the child victims.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The families have rarely been able to enjoy quality time together, and it is very important that they have time to enjoy each others company, in the relaxed atmosphere of a day out. Many of the families have been very traumatised by their home situation, and this has often caused a tension and distance between Mother and Child. It is lovely to watch them having the time to enjoy each others company again, knowing there is going to be no one to burst that bubble of happiness with an aggressive outburst. Many of our families have never had a relaxed fun filled day out at the seaside, zoo or theme park, so it is great to be able to facilitate this.
