About this cause

Established in 1998 to break the cycle of youth homelessness in County Durham. Working with those aged 16-35 who are homeless or on the way to becoming so. Providing outreach housing advice service across 25 locations. Workers stress to young people (YP) our ‘reality check’ so they know what it’s like to live independently. Moving On Housing (MOH) manages properties on behalf of landlords to increase the supply of good quality accommodation. MOH provides support to YP to become good tenants. Finally, Moving On Lettings, an ethical social lettings agency. Moving On makes a huge difference in tackling social disadvantage by housing YP who may have been rejected from other housing providers due to potentially being deemed too high risk and provide intensive support to help prevent failure.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Moving On realises there will be instances when our clients (16 - 35 years) may need financial support. This could include when a client moves into their first property and may not have essentials such as a bed. Our internal process is currently that the support worker will fill out an application form on behalf of the client highlighting what they intend to purchase from the relief fund. They also state whether they have applied elsewhere prior to the application. The support worker should discuss this with the client. The application will be sent to the manager and a different support worker to make a decision. The client/ support worker will be notified of the outcome whether they are successful/ unsuccessful. Funds will be spent in a supervised shop with the support worker.
