People: Supporting young people to fulfil their potential
We are looking to develop our garden area for our young people to understand perseverance and commitment along with the reward and value of growing and cooking their own vegetables, fruits and plants.

About this cause
The Lammas Scout and Guide Group provides the facilities and opportunities for children aged 4 to 18 in Sutton-in-Ashfield to gain experiences and develop independence, helping them believe they can become anything. Everyone is welcome; with Scouting and Girlguiding they have fun, adventure and space to discover. We prepare young people with skills for life.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Growing plants of any variety is a nurturing experience that requires perseverance and commitment. The young people will be pretty proud of their little plants once they have grown a bit! The garden will help to create a calm space where young people can reflect on their hard work. As they grow through Scouting and Girlguiding they will be able to have more influence over the garden developing leadership and teamwork, passing on previous knowledge gained to the young members. The area will encourage the young members to compare and contrast the differences between fresh and packaged fruit and vegetables, developing an understanding of where food comes from. The outdoor space will hopefully be further developed to provide the facilities for backwoods cooking and outdoor safety.
