About this cause
Our organisation is based in West Chadsmoor Cannock in the heart of a deprived community. We work with families to provide a hub that helps to nuture local people and help them become resilient and stable. We do this by providing activities which we tailor to each individual family to help them develop to their potential. The common problems that are experienced by most families are lack of confidence, low self esteem, inability to believe that life can change, lack of understanding of their children's needs and lack of skills in basic skills, cooking , literacy, numeracy. We offer courses in cooking, parenting, confidence building and basic skills and support to reach their own personal goals. Many families move to volunteering, higher education and eventually employment
How this cause brings people in the community together
We run family activity fun sessions where children and parents learn together in a group. This helps children learn and develop and it teachs parents about the needs of their children and how they as parents can help their children reach their developmental milestones. Children socialise with other children and often develop friendships which carry on through school. The parents also break the isolation of being at home and many are living alone and some in new districts or even countries. By attending these groups they form friendships and develop a support mechanism to cope with daily life. Within the group they produce booklets of ideas which they can recreate at home to provide a positive learning environment in the home. It is staffed by two family workers facilitating the group.
