About this cause
Established in 2009, Friends of Par Beach is a local, voluntary conservation group that works to protect, enhance and promote interest in the unique ecology that makes up Par Beach and the Local Nature Reserve. We aim to inspire interest, inform, explain, and encourage people to value the site and join us in looking after the area.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We're inspired to add more information boards and rubbing posts around Par Beach and the Local Nature Reserve due to positive community responses. People say they feel encouraged to look for different species by the posts/boards when visiting the area and like the idea of following a Nature Trail. The mixture of words, pictures and textures means these boards and posts appeal to many, including those identifying with literacy challenges or reduced sight. The rubbing posts' height means they are easily accessible for wheelchair users and children. Funding for more would mean we could extend the trail, supporting and encouraging more people to explore the site and spend time in nature. We would welcome the opportunity to help reach more people and enhance their mental wellbeing.
