About this cause
The Ropewalk is an Arts Centre and accredited museum in a quarter of a mile long Grade II listed building. The organisation's main purpose is to provide access to arts and heritage for all enhancing and developing the cultural life and economy of Barton upon Humber and North Lincolnshire. The Ropewalk has been established for 25 years, and became a Registered Charity in 2021. The Ropewalk is a hub in the local community bringing people together through cultural activities whether a film, food, art classes or one of our events. We work with all sections of the Barton community and the wider area with 95,000 visitors a year. On any day in the centre you will see older people meeting for companionship, family groups, art lovers or just friends meeting up for food.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Baysgarth House Museum will be reopened after a five-year closure. The Ropewalk team have raised the necessary capital funding to renovate the museum; we now want to work with the public to animate the building. We will develop new exhibitions with members of the community and use the Barton archive to connect families and older people to their heritage. The project will document changes to the town through history. We have already established a volunteer group of 50 people and we hope to expand it further. There will be free children and family activities in school holidays to engage young people and talks, classes and exhibitions of interest for the whole community.
