People: Helping older people feel connected
We want to set up a membership scheme to encourage older people to participate in events that we organise, such as restaurant and theatre trips, training and awareness presentations, and parties.

About this cause
The Information Centre has rebranded as Love Budleigh to reflect its role as an inclusive community hub, as well as promoting tourism in the area. The centre is run solely by volunteers and is self-funded. It arranges community events such as the street party last year and another planned for 2025. It also organises the Christmas late-night shopping entertainment. We offer a box office for ticket sales for the legendary Budleigh Music and Literary Festivals for people who are unable to access tickets online. We also put on an afternoon tea and a winter warmer soup event, which is very popular and gets people together. The centre is a safe space for people of all ages and backgrounds to seek advice and look for reassurance and guidance. We have plans to expand into other areas.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our Love Budleigh membership scheme will encourage all people, including older people and singles, to participate in group activities. For those experiencing loneliness and isolation, the scheme will enhance their wellbeing and improve their mental health. Membership will give access to community events organised by the Information Centre, and up-to-date information on what is happening in the town via our newsletter. We hope to be able to subsidise events to be inclusive if we have the funding to enable this. We recently won a sustainability award and will exercise this on all our future projects. We want to encourage people to see the Information Centre as a place to meet people, join in activities, and learn new skills. Membership will also give access to priority booking.
