About this cause

We run a Parent Toddler group in Choppington Guide Post Northumberland in the Wesleyan Reform Church Hall. We provide a safe warm caring environment for parents and their children. where the children can play safely under the supervision of their parents. We provide soft toys, books and educational play areas including a singing time which involves social interaction for the children. Parents can also enjoy time with other parents providing a much needed resource and help to the parents in the area where there is no other toddler groups. We set this up over a year ago as we discovered that there was a need for a community resource that provides an interim transition prior to children attending nursery then school. Our church is based in Ashington we do this outreach in Guidepost.

How this cause brings people in the community together

This project has been benefiting the children for over a year now but we would like to increase their interaction skills with the use of music and musical instruments. This will help to build confidence with both children and parents alike, by being part of this group this brings about a greater sense of community as parents meet outside of the group. The church hall is in an area of extreme deprivation and any type of community involvement brings about a greater sense of belonging in the community. This project also helps parents to develop new "parenting skills" utillising music. We also have three volunteer supervisors that oversee this project all of whom are Enhance DBS checked and hold First Aid Qualifications.
