About this cause

The Mid Derbyshire Badger Group was formed in 1990. The group's objectives are to encourage the understanding and study of badgers, their environment and habitat, and to promote measures that enhance their welfare and conservation. The group's work includes the surveying and recording of setts. Badgers and their setts are protected by the Protection of Badgers Act 1992. We advise companies and bodies whose work may affect badgers and their setts to ensure that they comply with the protective legislation. We urge the public to report injured and dead badgers and we always try to attend. We have a new rehab unit. We attend forest schools, Scouts, Guides and other group meetings, and we want to expand our education work. We hold regular meetings, as well as social and fundraising events.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We will be able to respond to call outs for injured and dead badgers and do our best to ensure they are treated with care and respect. The funds will help with vet bills, food, medicine and necessary equipment and also help to maintain our recently converted rehab unit. We will expand our education programme with the younger generation to help them appreciate and value their environment, promoting education whilst learning in a fun and engaging way. Our recent visits to forest schools, Scout Cub meetings and local schools have been greatly received. We will organise more events (wildlife walks, etc) with nature experts. These are always popular and well-attended.
