About this cause
There is no reason why people with Down syndrome (DS) can not get married, travel the world, have jobs, enjoy an active social life and influence society. We use early intervention and support to form the building blocks of those achievements so that everyone with DS in Cheshire can reach their full potential and live the life they choose. We support over 350 children and adults with DS and their families, and we educate, train and inform education and health professionals, and our wider community. In total we support 3,500 people each year. We deliver a variety of activities, projects and services for our community, including social activities, education advocacy, skills and training, family and individual support, speech and language therapy, and much more.

How this cause brings people in the community together
Our employability and enterprise project will provide young people with Down syndrome (DS) with weekly skill-building activities to help them choose career paths and find employment, training or set up their own businesses. We will organise trips to local businesses and training providers, volunteering for members to gain valuable work experience in different settings, career coaching from DSC staff and visiting business people to inspire and educate them on opportunities. We hope this project will inspire young people with DS to discover their ideal careers and break down barriers that prevent them from following their dreams. It will support their independence and grow their skills. It will also help businesses become more inclusive and aware of the barriers that our members experience.
