About this cause
The overall goal of Caring Altogether on Romney Marsh (CARM) is to support (mainly older) individuals who are socially isolated and/or lonely. By offering a variety of services, CARM enhances their health and wellbeing, brings joy to their lives, and helps them maintain independence. CARM also improves the quality of life in rural communities. CARM aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness among older adults. We provide services that foster social connections, emotional support, and engagement opportunities. CARM assists about 600 older people annually in Romney Marsh, including Rolvenden and Bilsington, through befriending, meeting points, reminiscence sessions, and community activities.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Reminiscence therapy offers profound benefits to elderly individuals across various care settings. Through structured sessions, volunteers stimulate memories and encourage interaction, fostering a sense of connection and engagement. The therapy uses themes like "the seaside" or music to evoke nostalgia and spark lively discussions that extend beyond the sessions, enhancing social bonds among participants and staff. Such initiatives not only entertain but also provide therapeutic value, enriching the lives of older adults in care environments.
