Children and Young People's Inclusion Programme
Young People
We want to provide inclusion activities for children and young people who have a vision impairment or a combined sight/hearing loss.
About this cause
Sight for Surrey is a county-wide charity, dedicated to providing support services for anyone who is vision impaired, Deaf, Hard of Hearing or who has Combined Sight and Hearing Loss. We offer a holistic, person-centred approach, focused on meeting the needs of each adult/young person/child and providing support for their families. Our 4,500 service users across Surrey are supported by our social workers, hearing loss advisers, specialist assessment and rehabilitation teams. Our outreach workers, volunteers, access technology trainers, eye clinic liaison support, resource centre, community mobile sight and hearing bus helps to support independent living and social integration amongst our community to help them live their lives confidently regardless of their disability or age.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The Children and Young People’s Programme provides a range of inclusive opportunities for 0-18 year olds to participate in alongside others who have a similar disability or with sighted peers. We run 24 events a year, which are age appropriate, and include arts, crafts, sports, adventure activities, music, theatre trips, riding etc. Our aim is to ensure that these children have access to the same life opportunities as their sighted peers. We offer a range of activities that are fun but also enable children to learn through experience. Meeting others who experience the same challenges can reduce isolation and give a feeling of solidarity. With our help, children and young people can fully participate in the community despite their disability with confidence and independence.
