About this cause
The purpose of Helping Whittlesey as an environmental charity is to provide food and non-food household items to communities in Whittlesey and the surrounding villages. Helping Whittlesey has been built with strong community involvement over the past six years, the development including the Community Pantry in 2023, which is now expanding. The Facebook page has 2,800 local members where requests can be made, items gifted or shared, Helping Whittlesey activities promoted, and also sharing of surplus food recipes and tips. We will be expanding our projects and activities in line with our purpose and have now secured bigger premises to get a repair cafe up and running and have additional space for an adjoining pantry.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The Helping Whittlesey charity has expanded and continuous efforts are being made to target a wider community. The Whittlesey Pantry and Coates Community Cabin are some of our established sources of supporting the community, however we have many projects lined up, including the opportunity to upcycle and redistribute household items, running a repair cafe and starting a community garden as well as linking with other local charities. Our aim is to help the local community whilst also teaching our next generation about saving food and items going to landfill, and how we can do our bit for our future generations. We aim to start a community garden and put the produce back into the pantry to pass to the community.
