About this cause
Age UK Wandsworth is an independent local charity. We've been working in the local community to help the wellbeing and independence of older people for over 60 years. We have dedicated staff and over 300 volunteers helping us to deliver supportive services and activities for older people in Wandsworth.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our community engagement activities encourage older people, many of whom live alone, to get together with others, helping to reduce isolation and loneliness, and to feel connected with their community and one another. We provide food and refreshments at each of our sessions free of charge, giving older people a warm and healthy meal. Our seated exercise, Dance to Health, gardening and walking group sessions promote active lifestyles, support falls prevention, allow us to offer information and guidance and to discuss healthy lifestyles including healthy eating and staying active. Our reminiscence activities, heritage talks, board games and arts and crafts promote lively conversations, memory sharing and encourage clients to share aspects of their heritage and culture with one another.
