About this cause

Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service is a charity that provides free specialist care and vital support to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and their families. We provide flexible care in the families’ homes across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and East Hampshire and in our purpose-built children’s hospice in Maidenhead, Berkshire. In addition to our respite, symptom management and end-of-life care, we provide specialist play, music therapy and Splash sessions in our hydrotherapy pool. We also offer family and bereavement support. This holistic approach meets the individual needs of each child and their family, whether physical, emotional or social.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We aim to provide food for the children visiting and staying in the hospice which meets their dietary and cultural needs so they can fully take part in the activities available, such as baking their favourite cake. This will help us make every moment count for these children. This project will provide the food and drink for sibling and family fun days. These events bring siblings and families together to gain new experiences others take for granted, provide opportunities to achieve their full potential and develop their peer support network. The project will allow us to arrange meals for families to eat together, and a box of key groceries, whilst staying for overnight respite, so they can make the most of the respite and relax without having to worry about cooking or the cost of food.
