Wilsden Village Hall
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We wish to install LED lighting in our Lower Hall which will be more environmentally friendly, help to reduce our electricity usage and therefore keep hire costs down.

About this cause
We are a not-for-profit charitable community centre. We are the hub of our village. We are here to support the residents of Wilsden and its surrounding areas. It is our objective to provide, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, age, creed, religious or political opinion, a safe and welcoming environment. We provide space for educational, recreational, social and physical activities to take place. Our aim is to deliver affordable space and human resources to support our community groups, with the aim of enhancing their physical and mental wellbeing. We will work to limit social exclusion within our community by supporting both young and old. We work in partnership with other community groups and our residents to ensure we continue to meet the needs of our village.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The lower floor of our building was an independent nursery school until December 2022, when it sadly closed due to lack of funding. Since then, we’ve sought to hire the space to different groups to reduce the village hall’s income loss. Currently, the Lower Hall is used weekly by Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, a tap dancing group, a toddler group, and karate classes. However, the space needs upgrading to make it more comfortable for existing users and attractive to future hirers. Next year, we plan to refurbish the Lower Hall, including installing LED lighting to brighten the main room, smaller room, kitchen, corridor, and toilets. While we have five donated LED strip lights, we need to replace six others and upgrade lighting in other areas to improve usability for all classes.
