About this cause
Hair & Care is a Hackney-based non-profit CIC supporting blind and low vision women and girls through hair and self care, to raise self-esteem and confidence and reduce isolation. We offer free monthly workshops led by our founder and a network of professional volunteers, where attendees learn confidence-boosting self-care skills in a safe, open and accessible environment. We support women of all ages, backgrounds and levels of visual impairment, improving their sense of identity and increasing social networks. We encourage community building and prioritise inclusion, accessibility and mental wellbeing of vulnerable women and girls at our Hackney premises.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our hair and self care workshops help to improve independence, self-esteem and mental wellbeing of vulnerable and disabled women and girls, bringing together attendees of all ages to learn confidence-boosting knowledge and skills in an accessible, safe environment at our Hackney premises. We support blind and low vision women and girls to fulfil their potential, from instilling the confidence needed for those seeking employment and wanting to improve social circles, to enabling older attendees to connect with others, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness and increasing mobility. We hope this project will create connections and opportunity within the blind and low vision community through the exploration of self care.
