About this cause

Sycamore Trust U.K. was formed in 2014 following on from the successful merge of two local charities: B & D Mencap which provided support for people affected by Learning Difficulties and P.A.C.T. which provided support for people affected by Autism. Since the merge the organisation has grown and expanded the services and support it provides. In 2013 it was decided that a complete re-brand was needed to reflect the changes and expansion that had taken place and after consultation with stakeholders it was decided that Sycamore Trust U.K. was a name that not only epitomised our organisation but also one which would take us forward into the future. We currently offer a range of services specifically designed to support families and individuals affected by Autism and Learning Difficulties.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We want to raise autism and learning disability awareness in our community by designing a programme of fun activities to promote inclusion and independence. This will include accessing local opportunities such as shopping at their local COOP , travel training or visiting the cinema or bowling. Through creating these opportunities we want to break down the barriers which can exclude disabled people from accessing services and show the positive contribution they can make to their community. The program will be open to young people with autism up to the age of 25 and adults with a learning disability. We will work with local disabled people to ensure our program meets their needs and will encourage local residents to volunteer as part of our project, which will focus of community cohesion.
