Kingston Carers' Network – Young Carers Project
People: Supporting young people to fulfil their potential
We help Young Adult Carers (YACs) feel less isolated by offering peer-to-peer support, and providing much-needed respite from their caregiving duties.

About this cause
KCN is a local registered charity, providing independent information, advice, advocacy and support to people who care for someone living in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. We support unpaid carers from as young as 5 years old. We are looking to fund a drop-in group for YACs, who are young people aged 18-25 caring unpaid for a family member, friend with illness or disability, mental health condition or an addiction. There is currently no funding for YACs and KCN has 223 registered YACs who we need to support. A support group (drop-in) will help YACs feel less isolated by offering peer-to-peer support, providing much-needed respite from their caregiving duties, and creating a welcoming drop-in space.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The YAC drop-in will help YACs feel less isolated by offering peer-to-peer support, providing much-needed respite from their caregiving duties, and creating a welcoming drop-in space. A 'chill out' area is perfect for socialising, sharing experiences, offering mutual support, and enjoying activities like playing music, eating together and playing board games, allowing YACs to unwind and connect with others who understand their unique situations. The session will aim to help build friendships, reduce loneliness, reduce stress and promote overall wellbeing. YACs are young people aged 18-25 who care, unpaid, for a family member or friend with an illness, disability, mental health condition or an addiction. At Kingston Carers Network (KCN), we have 223 registered YACs.
