About this cause

Barnfield Riding for the Disabled is a very small charity which supports children and adults with mental and physical disabilities through our horse-riding therapy sessions. Based at Barnfield Riding School, we offer individual and group sessions run by our trained volunteers to improve the challenging lives of people in our community with disabilities. Our aim is to provide a happy and safe place for them to spend time with our ponies and learn basic riding techniques. Our therapy sessions have been proven to deliver not only physical benefits but also boosts confidence, improves communication skills and helps build relationships. We know our sessions supports their education and learning and that having the opportunity to take part improves confidence in their daily lives.

How this cause brings people in the community together

This new project will allow an additional three young people in our community with mental and physical disabilities to experience the benefits of horse-riding therapy. Our aim is to improve their challenging lives by equipping them with the skills to fulfil their potential in the outside world. Our research shows that horse-riding therapy with us delivers physical benefits, boosts communications skills and helps build relationships. Even children with the most severe disabilities can benefit from safe horse-riding therapy which involves the experience of new senses such as movement, touch and smell, with added muscle strengthening.
