About this cause
Bridgend FAN’s focus is on meeting the needs of older people and helping them feel connected. Our participants tend to be older; they may be lonely or isolated by poor health, family circumstances, caring or bereavement; they may be new to the area or simply friendly local people wanting to reach out and build community. Attending FAN brings connection, friendship and support. Bridgend FAN is part of The FAN Charity whose vision is to promote community cohesion and social wellbeing by developing and strengthening good relations between individuals of all beliefs, races and cultures. FAN Groups work towards this in over 40+ free, weekly FAN Friends and Neighbours Groups, led by volunteer facilitators in South Wales. Bridgend FAN is a valued part of our community.
How this cause brings people in the community together
This funding would allow Bridgend FAN (Friends and Neighbours) Group to continue to meet, be free to attend and to grow stronger by sharing information about FAN more widely. Bridgend FAN welcomes anyone friendly, and brings those from very different generations and life experiences together in conversation. Everyone attending, especially older people living locally, will feel welcomed and will be listened to with respect. We know that attending weekly FAN meetings contributes to our participants feeling more connected and brings improved wellbeing. We would also like to be able to go on occasional outings as a group as participants tell us how much these are valued.
