Planet: Protecting nature

We would like to install a stumpery/bog garden in the park. There is a swamp/boggy area in the park which would be ideal to create a wildlife habitat for numerous insects, birds, wildlife and plants.

About this cause

Our mission is to enhance and protect the Memorial Park, to ensure that all visitors have a pleasant experience. We promote community spirit in Wickford and encourage health and wellbeing for the volunteers. It is open to all residents and inclusive to all. Our objectives are to promote the history of the park, ensuring the Memorial status is high profile, endeavour to secure the park's future, ensuring it is protected, and promote access and participation for local residents of all ages and disabilities. We are working to encourage wildlife in the park by ensuring diversity of planting, and also to create volunteer gardening/planting groups.

How this cause brings people in the community together

This project will enhance the park for all visitors by providing interesting ideas for them to produce in their own gardens or community spaces. But mainly it will be a habitat for wetland plants and shade loving plants, which we do not have in the park, and a habitat for insects, birds and wildlife, especially hedgehogs (which are at risk in our country). What is a stumpery? Stumperies both recycle and upcycle at the same time, turning unwanted tree root stumps into something beautiful, relaxing, tranquil and great for wildlife.
