People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We would like to provide an extra day for adults struggling with their mental health to get the therapeutic benefits of our woodland, connections with others and the skills of tutors and therapists.

About this cause
We support adults and young people with mental health issues in our empowering woodland environment. Participants are supported by qualified tutors, utilising woodworking, willow weaving and horticulture as a focus, whilst the woodland provides a soothing environment. Mental health professionals, occupational therapists and trained volunteers are there to work alongside the people we support, providing someone to listen who is qualified to help. All that and lunch cooked over an open fire. Studies show that by being in a woodland your heart rate and blood pressure decrease – it has a profound physical impact. Alongside therapy, the opportunity to learn new skills and make connections with other people makes this approach very powerful. At The Cart Shed we transform lives.
How this cause brings people in the community together
This project will provide an additional day for people to get support from our Woodland Wellbeing programme at The Cart Shed. Our project supports people to find purpose and meaning in their lives having struggled with their mental health. They will learn skills such as woodworking, willow work and horticulture and have support from qualified tutors, and clinical staff. They will experience the benefits of being in our woodland – a safe space without walls where they can be themselves, connect with others, learn new skills and get the support they need. The Cart Shed helps people develop resilience and self-belief and move forward having made connections with others and knowing they can achieve and have value.
