People: Supporting young people to fulfil their potential
We want to provide Forest School and bushcraft sessions for young people aged 12–16, to help them connect with nature, learn new skills, and socialise with friends.

About this cause
We are a not-for-profit community group offering Forest School, nature play and bushcraft for young people aged 5–16. We believe that young people thrive in nature and that all young people are entitled to free play and exploration in natural outdoor spaces. We run a term-time after-school Forest School club for children aged 5–11, and regular sessions throughout school holidays for this age group. We are currently developing our youth programme to provide nature-based activity sessions for young people aged 12–16, in collaboration with our local Youth Leader. We are also developing a therapeutic programme to work in nature with families whose children have autism or ADHD. We are based at a permaculture farm and have begun to run Farm to Fork sessions for local schools.

How this cause brings people in the community together
Our Forest School and bushcraft sessions for young people aged 12–16 will help connect them with nature, and provide a safe space for them to socialise with friends while learning new skills. We are passionate that young people deserve to be in nature, and that time spent outdoors is crucial for healthy physical development and mental wellbeing. We believe that our project will help young people in our community to learn practical skills and develop resilience and confidence, which will help them throughout their lives. Modern screen-based living has the potential to be damaging to young people, and providing a safe space in nature is an antidote to that, helping to combat stress and anxiety. Skills learnt in bushcraft and forestry can lead to lifelong interests and career opportunities.
