Planet: Protecting nature
We run Family Wildlife events using local churches. We make bird and bat boxes, design bird feeders, examine owl pellets, identify moths, and provide homes for insects.

About this cause
Our mission is to preserve the unique character of the Manhood Peninsula and inspire people to care for its wildlife and heritage. Our vision is for a place where nature flourishes, history is celebrated, and people thrive. Our current projects include hedging, and our future aim is to improve the resilience of the low-lying Manhood Peninsula by replacing gappy and missing hedges. We run two locally sourced native tree nurseries and provide a self-guiding trail and website for the Land Settlement Association. We work with the Weald and Downland Museum to exhibit an LSA house. We produce an information leaflet about the Selsey Tram. We're planting a pollinator highway, providing a Selsey photographic archive, and delivering educational work with schools and communities in The Witterings.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The project introduces families to the exciting natural world, enables them to make suitable items together safely, and inspires their future learning as well as creating something to take home! How the world works is fundamental to our life on earth and the processes need to be understood so that it can be looked after rather than wrecked by human beings. Rather than their current electric world, a wide range of people need to be able to explore how the world works and the importance of its wildlife. Nothing can develop on the planet without plants which provide food and shelter as well as create oxygen for us to breathe, let alone places for species to breed and look after their families. Young people readily appreciate this and the looks of wonder on their faces is a great bonus.
