About this cause
Chesterfield Foodbank, established in June 2013, is a charity under the Trussell Trust, providing emergency food packs via six sessions in Chesterfield. Local agencies issue vouchers to those in need, including the unemployed, low-paid workers, sick individuals, those recently discharged from institutions, and children missing free school meals during holidays. Volunteers collect, sort, pick and pack parcels and distribute food. We also offer hot drinks, snacks, and signposting to support and advice. We seek to end the need for foodbanks. We require ongoing funds for operations, food supplies, and essentials. Continuous improvements include volunteer training, donation campaigns, and targeted projects. Investing in Chesterfield Foodbank supports a mission to end poverty and hunger.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Building on our efforts to improve local people’s mental wellbeing, we seek support from the Co-op Local Community Fund to expand our foodbank project. In addition to providing emergency food, essential household supplies, and signposting services, our Dignity Essentials project focuses on dignity of choice, personal grooming, wellbeing and mental health. Our project will have a positive impact on our community by giving foodbank users a choice of hygiene products and essential toiletry items to boost self-esteem, confidence and mental health. A budget of £2000 helps approx. 700 people. We will promote and celebrate diversity and inclusion by offering a choice of male, female and gender-neutral toiletries for all age ranges.
