Zero Mile Gardens CIC
Planet: Tackling climate change
We want to develop our food-growing garden at Emmanuel Hall so it can welcome more volunteers, host a range of events with residents, and produce more food for the community.

About this cause
Zero Mile Gardens CIC aims to develop a network of thriving and self-sufficient food-growing spaces in our neighbourhood (St Thomas) and our city (Exeter) so that we facilitate and participate in the building of a fairer and healthier food system. To do so, we develop and support ecologically friendly food-growing spaces in the community; produce vegetables and plants to be donated or sold locally; run volunteer sessions, education and training activities around food growing to develop various skills; and run events around the issues of food, social justice and environment. We are currently developing a food-growing garden at Emmanuel Hall.
How this cause brings people in the community together
This project will make a difference in our community by turning an underused backyard into a thriving, beautiful food-growing space, open to all. The garden will welcome volunteers and run events and training sessions in partnership with like-minded local organisations. We will grow good food to be consumed locally and develop our community's growing skills through a range of activities. By doing so, we hope that our project will contribute to reducing food miles and raising awareness of the need to build a fairer and more sustainable food system in the context of climate emergency.
