Our foodbank relieves food poverty by distributing over 3600 food parcels a year to those most in need, including fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs and dairy, in addition to the standard ambient products.
About this cause
Our vision is to be an effective, leading organisation preventing and alleviating poverty, homelessness and social exclusion in North Northamptonshire. We aim to prepare adults impacted by homelessness, poverty and social exclusion for healthier, happier, independent and purposeful futures.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our foodbank relieves food poverty for groups we consider vulnerable and often marginalised. This includes families with small children, those with no recourse to public funds, those experiencing homelessness, worklessness and/or those in significant financial hardship. For the last 3 years we have seen a steady year-on-year increase in food poverty. This year there has been a further increase of 16% in demand for our food poverty relief. First the pandemic impacted on hundreds of households, then we entered the current economic downturn which has served to exacerbate the situation further with rising fuel costs, soaring food prices, and rent and mortgage increases. Salaries are not keeping up with inflation, and we are seeing a growing number of working families accessing the foodbank.
