Tapestry Care - Caring for those living with dementia
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We will purchase seeds, plants, pots & raised beds to bring our dementia/disability-friendly garden to life. Clients will help design, plant & care for the garden, & harvest and eat plants & herbs.

About this cause
Tapestry is an innovative charity and ‘not for profit’ social business working to provide appropriate, personalised and affordable care and support for adults and older people in the local community. We specialise in providing personalised care and support to people living with dementia and their carers. Access to affordable healthy food is available for vulnerable adults through our restaurants and home delivery service, as is transport to enable people to access care and support services. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live a healthy and connected life, regardless of age or ability, and our services reflect this vision.

How this cause brings people in the community together
As people age, and particularly when people develop limiting illnesses such as dementia, they are forced to stop doing things they love, such as gardening. Our disability/dementia-friendly garden allows people to continue to undertake these activities in a safe space. Importantly, this simple activity that we all take for granted also helps maintain physical activity, cognitive function & social interaction – all of which help someone who has dementia to remain stimulated, and feel valued & helpful. Gardening keeps people in the ‘here and now’ & provides the camaraderie of sharing a task. Gardens are also calm spaces that help to develop relationships through talking & outdoor stimulation. Our garden will provide this experience to hundreds of isolated people.
