About this cause

Bullion Hall is in an area of high deprivation (10-20% on the IMD) with high levels of social isolation amongst older people (Age UK 2016). We are open from 8am-9pm Mon-Fri and 10am-3pm at weekends. We have a footfall of approx 1000 people participating in a wide range of weekly activities from parent and toddler groups to men’s Cree from a sewing group to guitar classes. In addition we run various courses such as confidence building, how to build (and mend) a computer and savvy savings. We offer a welfare rights service and several luncheon clubs and distribute surplus food to households in need. We have 7 charities based in the building including Integrating Children and Wheels to Work. We have a community cafe, staffed by adults with learning disabilities to support independent living.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Promotion of the activities in Bullion Hall through a quarterly newsletter distributed to every household in the area (3100 households). To ensure that residents remain up to date with the activities open to them, especially older people who are least likely to access our website or Facebook pages. We know from annual surveys that our best promotional tool is word of mouth, however this is least likely to reach those most socially isolated. We will purchase a new laser jet ink printer and develop and produce newsletters in-house. We will pay for a leaflet company to distribute the newsletter to the neighbourhoods surrounding Bullion Hall. We offer a volunteer led befriending service, for those new to the building who may be uncomfortable visiting the building alone for the first time.
