Friends of Maghull & District CIC
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We will enhance awareness and support for neurodiversity by creating a beautiful uplifting community umbrella art installation to improve inclusivity and potentially provide a lantern legacy.
About this cause
The Friends of Maghull & District overall group aim is to identify and enable social and environmental projects that will benefit the residents of Maghull and the surrounding areas. The projects we deliver provide support to all members of the community, particularly those who are disadvantaged either socially or economically, and help to improve the environment that they live in. We also act as a community resource and support those with similar aims. This cause will bring together partner organisations to enhance awareness and support for neurodiversity while creating a beautiful uplifting community art installation to improve inclusivity and provide a legacy.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The Neurodiversity Umbrella Project is a celebration of the 'Diversity of Minds'. Neurodiverse thinkers have been hiding in plain sight; they are all around us, in our families, our workplace, our friendships, our schools, universities, just about everywhere! Many children in our schools have felt stigmatised or ashamed because of labels like 'learning difficulties' or 'special educational needs'. Now many young people claim their neurodiversity as superpowers! That is not to say that thinking differently doesn't come with challenges. Some tasks come naturally to all of us, others require learning in a way that suits our unique mind. We hope to replace the existing 'deficit model' with a strength-based approach focussing on what individuals can do.
