Spread Some Sunshine
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We aim to provide teddies and toys to children newly arrived at safe houses, having fled very serious cases of domestic violence.
About this cause
Spread Some Sunshine is a small UK-based charity run entirely by volunteers. Our mission is to bring happiness to children facing adversity. We support children (and families) including but not limited to, children living in severe poverty, mothers and children with HIV, children with brain injuries, children in safe houses because they have experienced domestic violence or fled modern slavery, and children in hospices and their siblings.
How this cause brings people in the community together
This project supports the most vulnerable children in our community in a real time of crisis. Those living in the safe houses are the most high-risk cases of domestic violence – they are assessed as being at risk of murder if they were to remain in their homes. Families flee with nothing, so when children arrive at the refuge it can be an extremely frightening and bewildering time. Many of the children will not have been able to bring their toys or even had toys to bring. We aim to make every child smile – and enjoy positive experiences that provide them with long-lasting happy memories. We do this through facilitating days out, providing toiletries, birthday and Christmas presents – and more recently, we have pledged that every child we support has their own teddy.
