About this cause
Porthcawl Museum is run by a dedicated group of professional volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain a place that welcomes, educates, inspires and benefits people of all ages within the community. We welcome groups of all abilities to share our love of heritage through visits, social events, special events and heritage walks. We readily support all local organisations and town events.
How this cause brings people in the community together
A large part of our collection is inaccessible to the public and opportunities are lost to reach more groups. Public access to our archives is limited due to space constraints. Touchscreen TV would provide thousands of local photographs to help visitors to interact to revisit and evoke memories, passing them to next generations. In addition, it would take years for our costume collection to be displayed the conventional way. Photographs of the costumes and other amazing items could be displayed digitally. We have a lecture room for presentations and talks on local heritage. We need an overhead projector to complete our objective. Encouraging audience input would show how different age groups view history. Both young and older generations will have their voice.
