Grace Eyre Foundation
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We would like to run a community allotment programme for people with learning disabilities and/or autism, to develop skills, reduce loneliness and benefit the environment.

About this cause
Grace Eyre is a charity supporting people with learning disabilities and/or autism in Brighton & Hove. Our goal is to help people with learning disabilities and/or autism to live the lives they want to. Over 60% of people with a learning disability and/or autism in Brighton & Hove do not feel happy with the amount of social contact they have. One of our goals is to bring people together, to have fun, improve wellbeing and develop skills. We do this through activities programmes to develop skills including gardening, employability programmes, art courses, numeracy and maths skills, theatre and drama courses, and through our varied housing programmes, to support people to live independently.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our project will grow friendships, skills and confidence for people with learning disabilities and/or autism, through activities at our allotment. Loneliness and isolation are feelings shared by over 60% of people with a learning disability, who do not feel happy with the amount of social contact they have. Barriers in travelling independently can make it difficult to go along to activities and make friends, meaning people often don't spend a lot of time outside. This project will support people to get to our allotment, to build friendships and take part in accredited courses on gardening and growing food. It will improve the mental health and wellbeing of our community as well as making an environmental impact.
