We want to pay for a support worker so that the mums we help can get involved in Little Village as volunteers.
About this cause
Little Village is like a food bank, but for toys, clothes & equipment for babies & kids up to age of 5. We collect great quality donations from local families, & we pass these items on to families in need, via our network of health visitors, midwives, & children’s centres. Since our first referral in April 2016, we’ve helped over 230 families - demand's doubled in the last 3 months. We've given out 76 cots/moses baskets, 56 buggies, 40 bouncy chairs, & countless bundles of toys & clothes. We run a playgroup where families can collect their items, as well as getting non-judgemental, warm support. We are all volunteers: Little Village is a gift from one family to another. "Little Village has left my heart swollen. I had no idea how or where I was getting the funds for this baby. Thank you"
How this cause brings people in the community together
Many of the mums we give items to tell us that they want to give back to Little Village as well as benefiting from us. Some of our beneficiaries have already re-gifted items they no longer need to us, for other families. But we want to go further and support some of our mums to get involved as volunteers. Many of these women are living in difficult circumstances – with very low incomes, uncertain housing, and poor job prospects. We want to support these women and build their confidence and professional skills by providing meaningful volunteering opportunities to them in a supportive, child-friendly environment. This project will enable us to pay for a skilled professional to work with our volunteers and take the mums on this journey.
