About this cause

We provide opportunities to students from the age of 6 and have a wide cross-section of people. We have students from different ethnicities, a good range of male/female members and some students at the moment in their 60s. Karate improves mental wellbeing, confidence and discipline as well as equipping members with invaluable life skills, not only in self-defence but promoting a healthy lifestyle, and developing character and leadership skills. Primarily we want students to enjoy themselves. As a club, we provide tuition to all skill levels and we have European and World medallists. We all train alongside each other with no elitism, enabling students to learn from each other.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We aim to enable students to learn and practice vital new skills in a safe environment for all members, from grassroots to elite level. Karate itself provides an escape from the challenges of life with a fun and safe place to learn the martial art. Students meet new friends, encouraging a healthy lifestyle and become part of a team with a positive ethos. Everyone is offered opportunities to enhance their skills in the wider karate family and seeing the increased confidence and discipline achieved is phenomenal. This project is beneficial to the academy and will help with raising standards of achievement for all abilities, thus striving to raise self-esteem for everyone involved.
