About this cause

The group aims to provide a friendly and supportive meeting place for those who may be experiencing isolation, unemployment and other social difficulties related to mental ill health. Our two centres, The Haven in Wick and Stepping Stones in Thurso, are open every day of the year, provide social support and encourage service user participation in self-help, leisure, hobbies, arts and crafts etc. Due to increasing community needs we are seeking funding to increase the capacity (specifically staffing) of CMHSG to provide lunchtime drop-in (accessible) mental health support through specific targeted 'Community Top-Up Sessions'. This will enable all residents of Caithness to access a completely holistic service with a hot meal and meet with mental health/benefits support workers.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The project will reduce isolation and deepen service connection to a community of support, enabling people to cope with the increased pressures of the cost-of-living crisis and mental health concerns. The primary focus will be the mental and physical wellbeing of those accessing the service. Support workers will prioritise social connection with service users, building relationships between other CMHSG service users, volunteers and other people accessing the ‘Community Top-Up Sessions’. They will provide a non-judgemental listening ear and build community for those users. Where required, they will refer on to more in-depth mental health services while continuing to provide a place of comfort and safety. The project offers additional ways of engaging people and supporting their community.
