Young Carers Project

People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing

We aim to provide several respite trips for young carers so they can have a break from their caring role, meet other young people who are in similar situations and have a chance to relax and have fun.

About this cause

Ealing and Hounslow Young Carers Projects is run by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and supports young carers between the ages of eight and eighteen who live in the London Boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow. The Young Carers Project provides information and advice, fun activities in school holidays, weekly youth clubs, specialist workshops and one to one support. The project is a chance for young carers to have a break from their caring role and to meet other young people who are in a similar situation. We aim to make each session a place where young carers can have fun and support each other in a safe environment.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our project will support young carers with their health and wellbeing. Being a young carer can impact on the young person's mental health. Many of our young carers say they suffer from anxiety as a result of their caring role. They can also feel very isolated. Some of our young carers do not have much or any social interaction outside of school due to their caring role. This may be because they are too busy carrying out their caring role or the person they care for is unable to take them out, particularly if they are younger. Young carers often feel tired and stressed and may be not finding time for themselves. Giving the young carers opportunities to have respite, meet other young people and have fun is essential for supporting young carers and improving their wellbeing.
