People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We help Reading’s disadvantaged teenagers come together in a safe place and get creative at RABBLE Theatre’s Young Company, using drama as a tool to boost wellbeing and improve lives.
About this cause
Since 2012, RABBLE has become central to Reading’s cultural life, staging unforgettable stories in fascinating spaces, inspired by and created with our diverse community. We help people feel proud of who they are and where they come from, shining a spotlight on the stories of real people and local history in our work. RABBLE’s outreach and education programme is accessible to all; delivering skills training, feeding our theatre career development programme and building our cultural community. Drama workshops and classes are available for young people and adults from ages 8+. Activities are designed to encourage self-expression, inspire creativity and improve people’s wellbeing.
How this cause brings people in the community together
RABBLE’s Young Company will provide a free, safe place for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in Reading to express themselves creatively, work collaboratively and be inspired through drama. Numerous studies have highlighted that participation in creative activities supports mental wellbeing, provides emotional and stress relief, increases self-esteem and encourages self-discovery. For all young people, particularly those on the fringes of society, at risk of exclusion, or who have challenging home lives, drama and the arts can offer a powerful lifeline and be a positive force for change. Your support will help us to ensure that those most in need of a creative outlet can still take part.
