About this cause
We bring together retired men who can put to good use the practical skills they have acquired over a lifetime of work. Our group provides a place to meet, combatting loneliness and isolation. We have a workshop that works mainly with wood which allows us to undertake local projects for schools, social groups and the local council. We utilise recycled materials often donated to us by local businesses. This way the materials are saved from landfill. We have assisted and will continue to assist schools and other organisations with items that help with nature conservation, such as bird boxes, bat boxes and hedgehog boxes.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our project will continue to support retired men who are often isolated and lonely, giving them a sense of purpose and improving their general wellbeing. It will also help local schools and the wider community by undertaking projects that would normally not be possible due to funding constraints. Our projects often support wildlife conservation by supplying and installing bird boxes, bat boxes and hedgehog boxes. Local schools will continue to benefit from specific projects that we can undertake often at no cost to the school. For example, we have renovated outdoor playing equipment, built an outdoor reading area and made an indoor tree library. We utilise materials donated by local businesses that would otherwise go to landfill.
