About this cause

We plan to provide a travelling pop-up, rehabilitation and fitness maintenance service for people who have spinal cord injuries. We aim to provide a fun and pleasant environment for users to feel comfortable to exercise in without being self-conscious. There is a gap in the market for this in the North East not covered by NHS. Pop-up Gym will provide the equipment and staff, and we will set up in community facilities such as community and church halls, private rooms in leisure centres and we may also visit people in their homes if needed. Quadriplegics, paraplegics, Stroke survivors and those with MS or brain injuries/medical conditions who have been left with paralysis, are the ‘target users’ though Pop-up Gym aims not to exclude anyone who would like to use it.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The purpose of Pop-up Gym is to encourage participation and no-one will be excluded on the basis of lack of money. Our goal is to encourage quadriplegics, paraplegics and anyone who has paralysis, to come along to the Pop-up Gym in a facility local to them to exercise their bodies and have fun whilst keeping fit without feeling self-conscious. We are hoping that by taking part in Pop-up Gym it will help build their confidence and focus on what they can do, not what they can't and encourage some of them to go on to take part in sporting activities such as basket ball/other ball games or hand-cycling which requires muscle strength.
