People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing

We would like to continue to offer yoga classes. Our chair yoga is very popular for the less fit. Groups are small and very friendly. All group activities are open to non-members.

About this cause

We are a community-based group bringing local people together in a safe and friendly environment. We aim to help fight social isolation and loneliness, by bringing locals back together after lockdown. We are trying to get us back to 'normal', which is taking time to achieve. For physical activity we have two walking groups and two yoga groups, one for regular yoga and one for chair yoga. Members can also meet at the Maybole swimming pool. Improving mental health is important to us, and we do this by meeting up for a chat or by providing opportunities to join our camera club, knitting and crochet, sewing or art groups. Being a charitable organization and community group, we exist solely for the benefit of our members, who are encouraged to contribute ideas for future events and activities.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Being a charitable organization and community group, we exist solely for the benefit of our members. We started a second short walk to help those who had lost fitness over lockdown, and continue to support them as they build themselves back to where they want to be. We started chair yoga in addition to floor yoga as it was requested for those who feel they are not fit enough to participate in floor yoga. Pre-lockdown the floor yoga class almost funded itself, and we covered the shortfall. Post-lockdown we are struggling with numbers in the current financial crisis, so in order to continue to support this group we will need additional financial help. We would like to keep the price the same, but once established the class should be self-funding. Walking and yoga are open to non-members.
