About this cause

The Sanctuary Trust are a not for profit registered charitable company working with homeless people in Rochdale and also in Conwy. The Sanctuary Trust opened in 1991 working with street homeless men with substance misuse problems, the service ran from a day centre. We responded to the obvious need for a residential project by opening Halsall House, supported accommodation offering a stable, therapeutic environment where our beneficiaries can address their homelessness, substance misuse, mental health and other attendant issues. In Rochdale we have Sanctuary Trust Emergency Provision STEP providing emergency overnight accommodation for people 18+ We have a men's project in North Wales dealing with the same issues as Halsall House, we also have second stage move on provision in Wales.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The training will provide disadvantaged people with knowledge of the housing system and how to maintain a tenancy. The program will be delivered by Sanctuary Trust over various locations. We are prepared to deliver the program in schools, prisons, probation services, housing offices and other public facilities. We have also identified three sites capable of facilitating group work activities. The amount of courses and number of learners per course will be dependent on learners needs. For example, if a set of learners have particularly low learning needs we can run a group containing up to 20 learners. There will however be occasions where learners are identified as having complex or high learning needs where we would even deliver one to one teaching.
