About this cause

We’re a charity that improves the health and wellbeing of children and adults through the healing power of live music. Every year, our professional musicians share live music with over 30,000 people from across the UK, who may not otherwise get to experience it. This includes those living with dementia, who have mental health problems, or who are seriously ill. We believe live music needs to be part of everyone’s health and social care; research shows that live music heals. It helps people feel relaxed and confident, and can relieve frustration, stress and isolation. Music can also reduce the perception of pain. It brings back memories and helps create new ones. When you move your body to music – even just tapping a finger – it’s natural physiotherapy.

How this cause brings people in the community together

For many people in health and care settings, life can be quiet. Too quiet. We know that live music improves people’s mental, physical and emotional health. Live music helps people feel relaxed and connected. It can relieve frustration, stress and isolation, and reduce the perception of pain. We bring patients, families, residents and carers together in a positive shared activity. The people who take part in our live music experiences are involved in creating and shaping them. They choose the music they enjoy, that resonates with them and makes them feel better. The feedback that we receive shows that this leads to better relationships and understanding, improved morale and ultimately better care.
