Briarwood Banks (Northumberland Wildlife Trust)
Pending display name
We will build on work to restore ancient semi-natural woodland and provide suitable habitat for rare species, such as the dormouse and the pied flycatcher, at our Briarwood Banks nature reserve.
About this cause
Northumberland Wildlife Trust exists to protect wildlife and habitats within Northumberland, North Tyneside and Newcastle and to educate the public about nature conservation. We are part of the family of 46 Wildlife Trusts in the UK – the only conservation movement to combine protection of all forms of wildlife with the conservation and protection of landscapes and the environment. We manage over 60 local nature reserves covering 38km² of countryside, and run projects that help threatened species, including red squirrels, water voles and otters. We work in partnership with many different organisations and individuals to manage the landscape positively for wildlife and people.

How this cause brings people in the community together
Our work will include installing, maintaining, improving and monitoring habitat boxes and carrying out tree works to help maintain the special habitat of the woodland. We will record wildlife seen at the site to help us learn more about and look after the species living there. We will also improve infrastructure on the permissive path through the woodland to help visitors explore and enjoy this beautiful place.
