Northstowe Arts CIC
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We wish to provide more free drop-in creative activities for people of all ages to enjoy at community events in Northstowe, bringing people together and supporting their health and wellbeing.
About this cause
Northstowe Arts supports community development through creativity, by developing community-led creative activities in Northstowe and the surrounding villages, celebrating the nature, heritage and identity of the new town. We do this by engaging as many members of our community as possible in creativity to support their wellbeing; delivering an inspirational, inclusive, ambitious, professional creative programme for all ages; supporting local creatives to develop their practice and businesses; and working with partners to create opportunities for participation in creative activities. We are open, welcoming, enabling, creative and ambitious.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Without many community meeting spaces, it's difficult for people moving into Northstowe to meet and get to know other people living locally, or for people living in the villages surrounding Northstowe to get to know people living there. This can be very isolating, and results in people of all ages experiencing low levels of mental health and wellbeing. These free, drop-in creative sessions, taking place during wider community events, give everyone the opportunity to meet new people and have a chat whilst making or doing something creative – whether it's a craft, creative writing, singing or dancing, they're all great icebreakers for people of all ages and backgrounds.
