People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We are setting up a Community Allotment where people can come and spend time planting and growing fruit and vegetables. We will then distribute the produce on our Food Share stall to people in need.
About this cause
We deliver our vision by providing and coordinating support for people in our community to enable them to live independent lives. By working in partnership with other organisations and our network of volunteers we identify people’s needs and meet them through a diverse range of services. We provide information, advice and signpost other agencies and services. Our main activities are: Community Car Scheme, Minibus Trips, Meals on Wheels, Carers Sitting Service, Befriending Service, Men in Sheds Project, prescription collection and delivery, shopping collection and delivery, Food Bank and Food Share. In addition to these key services, we coordinate ad hoc peer support groups, such as Knit and Natter and a Crossword Club, and run regular social get-togethers with our Tea and Tarts events.

How this cause brings people in the community together
Our project will support everyone in the community by bringing people together to work on the allotment, learn new skills, watch plants grow, talk and engage with others in a friendly environment knowing that the results of their labour will be fruit and vegetables to take home or be distributed to those in need on our Food Share stall. We also distribute food from the local Co-ops as part of the Food Share scheme. Some of the produce could be used in our Let's Cook project where anyone who has lost confidence or wants to learn to cook can participate. This will also reduce food waste in the community.
