About this cause

Cowfold Parochial Church Council is responsible for maintaining St Peter’s Church and churchyard including the Church Path which runs through the churchyard. The church building is used by the village primary school, Cowfold Community Choir, visiting groups of bell ringers and a flower arranging club as well as for worship. Church Path is a much used public footpath connecting the centre of Cowfold to the primary school, housing to the west of the village and the countryside beyond, passing through the churchyard avoiding the A272 main road. We plan to restore the lighting for the benefit the whole community. In particular school families walking home from after-school clubs, dog walkers and all groups that use the church building. Being well lit will make the path safer for all to use.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The lighting along two sections of Church Path from the old Co-op, and from the lych gate near the new Co-op, to the church entrance has not been operational for several years. We have plans to install 6 new pillar lamps connected to the existing electricity supply controlled by a timer. We need to raise close to £6,000 for the whole project costed at £900 per lamp plus the cost of the cabling. We are seeking sponsorship, grants and donations to complete the project lamp-by-lamp. The path itself is constructed of ancient Horsham stone and is, by its nature, an uneven surface. Being well lit will make it safer for older and younger residents to use for the benefit of the whole community whether school children, dog walkers or members of various groups using the church building.
