Dovecote Parents and Staff Association
People: Supporting young people to fulfil their potential
We aim to develop a forest school nature area where children in our city school can learn about climate change, ecosystems and nature in a hands-on environment.
About this cause
We are a group of parents, staff and friends of Dovecote Primary School who run events for the children and wider school community to increase engagement and provide funds to benefit all of the pupils at the school.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our school is located in a low-income city area, with 51% of the children receiving free school meals. Our project will support children's physical and mental health, providing opportunities for hands-on lessons in the developed forest school area. During these sessions, children will develop an understanding of ecosystems, local nature and climate change and will have the ability to voice their opinions and thoughts about how to care for their surroundings, both in the school and in the wider community. We hope by raising aspirations and inspiring children to dream of change, that social mobility will increase for the pupils at the school, as well as gaining valuable insight into environmental issues and developing good habits in regard to recycling, native plants and climate change.
