About this cause

Downton Downtime dementia club is a creative social group, with music at its heart, for people living with dementia and their supporters/carers in the Downton area. We are a safe and supportive space in which people affected by dementia and memory loss can feel connected to others in a similar position in their local community. We provide participatory music, movement, arts and social activities, and link with other organisations such as Wiltshire Rural Music, Celebrating Age, Carers Champions and social prescribers to provide holistic support to members, thus increasing mental and physical wellbeing. There are currently no other social groups specifically for people affected by dementia or memory loss in the Downton area, which makes us a much-needed resource for the local community.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Downton Downtime will provide a regular opportunity for good-quality interaction and participation for people with dementia, which is essential to maintain wellbeing. The group will also raise awareness of dementia in the wider community through sharing their creative work, such as music performances and crafts, at suitable local opportunities (e.g. the Christmas Tree festival) and supporting volunteering opportunities. This will enable many people in the local community to benefit holistically from the group, not just people affected by dementia.
